Guided Reading & Shared ReadingIncludes a variety of leveled books to give students practice reading at their independent level in small groups and big books to learn and practice reading skills in a whole group setting. We will use both fiction and nonfiction books.
Whole group reading lessons will include phonics skills, grammar skills, vocabulary strategies, and comparing fiction and nonfiction stories, We will use the text Journeys by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
Writing Includes: narratives, opinion, informative, & research pieces; writing conventions, writing process, and publishing using digital tools.
Phonics Includes letter/sound relationships, digraphs, vowel sounds, word families, sight words, etc. English Language Arts Text: Journeys by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Spelling Includes: lists of word families, sight words, and vowel sounds/patterns; using spelling words in sentences.
Math Includes: problem-solving skills and computation practice, addition (sums to 20), subtraction, using addition strategies, using subtraction strategies, graphing, geometric shapes, place value, counting patterns, telling time, measurement, and fractions. Text: My Math by McGraw-Hill.
Handwriting Includes: correct letter forms, proper spacing, size, alignment, and legibility using materials by Zaner-Bloser.
Science Includes: Sound & Light, Sky and Earth, Weather and Seasons, Living Things, Parents & Offspring, & Scientific Investigation Text: Elevate Science by Pearson.
Social Studies Includes: Families, school, responsibilities of a citizen, United States Symbols, Native American homes, Kansas studies, and family economics. Text: Social Studies All Together by Scott Foresman
