Today your child brought home a note about our upcoming field trip to the Kansas Museum of History on October 4. They will need a disposable sack lunch that day. You have the option of ordering one from the school cafeteria. If you wish to do this, please fill out the bottom portion of the field trip note with your child's choice of menu and return it to school by September 10. The cafeteria needs two weeks to get items ordered and delivered for the lunches.
Next Friday is Grandparents' Day from 8:30-9:30. This week your child brought home a note about this. The blue note can be filled out and serve as the grandparents' "ticket" into the building. They won't have to sign in if they have this "ticket."
There was also a note about a Mini Cheer Camp. If your child wants to participate in this camp and perform at the HS football game, please have the form and money turned in by September 13.
Your child brought home a note about shoe tying. It is important that their shoes stayed tied during the day as we go up and down the stairs many times each day. Please help your child practice tying their shoes independently.
Finally, there was a note about a ring of sight words I put in their homework bags. We will work on 5-6 of those words per week. They will also be spelling words that week also. It is always good to get extra practice on these words. Thank you for helping your child learn these and find them in their books!!
We are slowly getting into a routine as first graders! Next week, we will begin practicing rotating through our "stations" in small groups. After we do our reading assessment , we will begin our small group reading instruction. We will still do whole group reading instruction, but the small groups allow students to be challenged at their personal instructional level. When we do this, your child will start bringing home small books to practice in their homework bags.
We have a great group of first graders this year!! I hope you have a great and safe holiday weekend!!
